Introduction
It was best said in the movie Top Gun. For anyone who's seen the movie, the classic quotable "I feel the need... The need for speed!" is the first to enter one's mind.
Hence the basis and popularity of the new geForce2 chipset, the latest to have SPEED stamped all over it. Brought to you by long time top-of-the-line video card maker
Hercules (now owned by Guillemot), the 3D Prophet II GTS (32mb) is clearly one of the fastest cards currently available. Rightfully so, considering what was done to
nearly double its speed over its predecessor, the geForce DDR. A new .18 micron die and a DDR-RAM optimized chipset take this card to a whole new level. To find out more,
let's read on...
Out of the box
As usual, the packaging was nothing special. These days it's not expected to be since we want a video card, not another box. A quick flip of the lid and out came a
nice booklet complete with installation instructions, a CD and a registration card. Flip the box around and open the other side to reveal a gray plastic bag
nicely wrapping a new 3D Prophet II GTS. From the screenshots, you'll notice immediately that this board is uniquely printed on a blue PCB, contrary to the standard
green or copper color of other boards.
