 :: Boston Acoustics BA7500

Installation
Installation of the BA7500 was very simple. The instructions included were very easy to read and understand and should pose no problem even to the novice user.

Testing

  • Pentium III 1Ghz
  • Intel 815e Motherboard
  • 128MB PC133 RAM
  • Maxtor 7200RPM 30GB
  • Monster Sound MX400
  • Geforce2 GTS
For testing, I used what I normally do for speaker reviews, my ears. Oh, and a few other people so that you don't think I am just being biased.

To have a little comparison, I setup my Cambridge FPS2000 speakers along side of the BA7500's. I then sampled music ranging from Classical to Rock to get a good feel for the range of clarity and bass that the BA7500. After playing around with listening to music for a couple hours, the verdict was in. The BA7500 won hands down. It simply blew away the FPS2000 with its clarity and great sound.

Now that I know the BA7500's rock when it comes to music, I was very anxious to see how they sounded with games. I fired up my current addiction, Counterstrike and went in to cap a few domes. The first gunshots and explosions made me jump from my seat, they sounded so realistic. I definitely knew then that these were keepers.

Up until now I had been testing with just the analog inputs. Now to test out the digital capabilities of the speakers, I hooked the digital output on my Monster Sound MX400 to the rear of the subwoofer. The BA7500 has one digital input, so if you have a front and rear output on your soundcard, the rear speakers must be hooked up to the analog inputs on the subwoofer.

After hooking up the digital cable to my MX400, I tested out the speakers again and found that the music and games seemed clearer then before and even allowed for higher volume levels than with the analog inputs.

The BA7500's include a built-in Dolby Digital Processor so they provide awesome 5.1 surround sound audio when playing your DVD movies.

Anyone that has ever read any reviews or has a MX400 know that this card is definitely nowhere close to a cream of the crop card like the SBLive. Unfortunately, I did not have a SBLive available to me at the time of testing to try these speakers out on, but I think I can fairly say that since these speakers performed awesome on the MX400, they will only be complimented even more with the SBLive.
