 :: D-Link 64MB Portable MP3 Player
  Testing
For testing the software I tried uploading and downloading songs to the player on both Windows ME and Windows 2000. It worked great on Windows ME, but I did experience a problem on Windows 2000. After installing the software the Unplug or Eject Hardware icon would be displayed in the systray. If I attempted to stop the device by right clicking on Unplug or Eject Hardware and then selecting Stop D-Link DMP-120 NTJCMP3.sys MP3 USB device, I would receive the blue screen stop error with the infamous Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. The error pointed the finger at the uhcd.sys as being the culprit of the problem. If I just removed the device without ejecting it via the software it worked without a problem. I did however have the player actually lock up twice if I just unplugged it without ejecting via the Eject Hardware icon.

I researched some bulletin boards and found that there is an updated uhcd.sys available in a hotfix from Microsoft for Windows 2000, which fixes another related problem with a USB keyboard. This problem may fix the MP3 error also. Unfortunately, I did not have access to the hotfix to test it out.

The Digital Voice Recording portion of the player worked without a problem. I was able to record my voice and play it back with good quality.

Conclusion
While there are still some issues with Windows 2000, I had no problems with Windows ME, the player worked without a problem. The software is very simple and easy to use. The only problem one might have starting off is distinguishing the appropriate button to upload/download/delete files, as the buttons are not labeled with text, just icons. As the majority of users will probably be users with Windows 98 or ME, I would see no problem in recommending this product. If you are a Windows 2000 user, I would consider maybe researching this product some more and see if any others are experiencing some issues.

Bottom line, if you are in need of a simple MP3 Player to upload files to and listen to on the go, this is a player you should look at. The Digital Voice Recording feature is great for people on the go that need to remember something, but either don't have access or time to some paper to write it down on. Plus, its also easier to carry this player than to keep track of things you were going to do on a piece of paper.
