Software and Advanced Configuration
From just reading the installation guide included, it may be easy
to gather that the only configurability of the router is by the
few options in the web-based management system. Fortunately, this
is not the case. Included with the router is a resource CD which
tells you everything you could ever want to know about the router,
as well as how to telnet and direct connect to the router via serial
cable for many advanced features.
Lets have a look at some of the main advanced options that are
available.
Whether you connect to the router via serial or telnet into it
from your local network, the first thing you will receive is a password
prompt. The default password as mentioned above is 1234. After entering
this, you will be brought to the following menu of options.
General Setup - This option allows you to set the name of
the router as well as enabling dynamic DNS for registration with
a DNS you specify. This option can be configured via the web-based
configuration.
WAN Setup - This option allows you to spoof the MAC address
of the router by pointing it to the IP of the NIC card on your network
to which you would like it to use as the MAC address. This option
can be configured via the web-based configuration.
LAN Setup - This option allows you to turn on/off the ability
of the router to act as a DHCP for your local network as well as
assigning the IP of the local router port. It also allows you to
apply certain filters that you specify in "Filter Set Configuration"
Internet Access Setup - This option can be configured via
the web-based configuration. It setups the method to which the router
connects to your ISP as well as allowing you to input your username
and password if you ISP requires you to login.
