Samsung Unveils the Galaxy S5
The fifth generation Galaxy S was unveiled today at Samsung’s Unpacked 2014 event. The Galaxy S5 features a 16 mega-pixel camera, fingerprint scanner and a heart rate sensor.
Unlike the iPhone 5S which allows you to hold your finger on the home button to unlock, the G5 will require you to swipe your finger across the bottom to be read. Samsung is taking your fingerprint a step further however and allowing it to be used to authenticate with other services such as Paypal.
The heart rate sensor is integrated with the flash from the camera and while this feature has been available on older phones with 3rd party apps, Samsung is also allowing this data to be used across apps.
The G5 is running Android 4.4 KitKat and features a slightly larger screen then its predecessor at 5.1 inches. It will e powered by the 2.5ghz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2gb of RAM, IR remote, NFC, Bluetooth 4 and your choice of 16gb or 32gb of storage. Further storage upgrades are available via a microSD card.
The Galaxy S5 is expected to be released on April 11, 2014. No word on pricing yet.
