What happens when you take a group of computer science engineers with a knack for problem solving and turn their attention to poor nutrition? Soylent meal replacement formula.

With a tag line of “Never worry about food again”, they are focused on reducing nutrition to its simplest form and making it easy to prepare or consume.

Soylent

Before we dive too much into this topic, the vast majority of you are going to correctly refer to the social and pleasure aspects of eating. You are correct…for the most part. With 70% of Americans overweight or obese and 1 in 3 people in developing worlds suffering from deficiency there is room improvement.

On the other hand, you have your class of individuals annoyed by taking the time to prepare food and failing at a properly balanced diet. Instead, living on fast food and junk.

The Soylent team started with a $100,000 goal to get their project started and quickly amassed over $2 million. They’ve put the money to good use and finalized their formula and are working on the last logistics in packaging and delivery. Shipping is expected in late March.

So how does it taste? Is it safe? Can I live completely on it alone? There are a lot of unknowns at this point but we have placed our first order and will be providing a full report. The final nutritional facts label has been released and several “beta testers” have reported in on their experiences. Those have included lost weight, increased energy and healthier skin.

The taste has been described as “essentially flavorless” with people adding in small flavor enhancements. There’s still a long road ahead for this team but I think they are on to something and we will be paying attention.

For now, jump in on a pre-order of a weeks worth of Soylent for $65:
